CATHOLIC DAILY DEVOTIONAL 17 MARCH 2022 TODAY
TODAY’S TOPIC: STAYING GREEN
SCRIPTURE: Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose hope is the LORD. He is like a tree planted beside the waters that stretches out its roots to the stream: It fears not the heat when it comes, its leaves stay green; In the year of drought it shows no distress, but still bears fruit. – Jeremiah 17:7-8
If anyone had a right to gripe about hard times, it was St. Patrick. Kidnapped by pirates at 16 and forced into servitude in the land of Ireland, he dreamed of escape and his old home. Clinging to his faith throughout his ordeal, he eventually escaped and returned home. Some might say his return was miraculous—all part of God’s bigger plan. But it is also said that God led Patrick to priesthood with a vision of bringing the faith to pagans back in Ireland.
St. Patrick is like the tree Jeremiah describes that stays green despite heat and drought.
St. Patrick, pray for us to bear fruit for God, despite adversity!
– Pat Gohn
BIBLE READING: Jeremiah 17:5-10 • Psalm 1:1-4, 6; Luke 16:19-31
